These ghettos were in what the German refereed to as the east, which was Poland. Then they would be responsible for guarding these areas making sure that the Jews stayed within the boundaries of it. Just to examine some numbers from a historical standpoint it is noted that by September of 1942 Police Battalion 101 had participated in the deportation of some 78 Poles and more than 15,000 Jews. To look at the overall operations of Police Battalion 101 between the fall of 1941 and the spring of 1945 they participated in the loading of 260 trains that took German, Austrian, and Czech Jew directly to the ghettos and death amps of the east. .

As the war wage on Police Battalion 101 had a change of assignments. They were assigned to track down and systematically eliminate all of those who had escaped the previous roundups and were now in hiding. In short they were responsible for making the region judenfri. This means free of Jews. Another duty that ran along with this Jew hunt was that this group would be responsible for collecting Jews that would escape from the trains or were somehow overlooked when the initial invasion of a village or town would take place. Besides the war that was taking place in Europe was also a front that was located in the Pacific. The country that was doing the bulling in the Pacific, was Japan. Japan's Imperial Army and Navy were out to conquer the countries of the South Pacific. The Japanese were taking these measures to accumulate natural resources and also expand their empire. These are the same issues that fueled Hitler's invasion of other European nations. Just like the Germans mistreatment of the Jews, the Japanese treated the inhabitants of Manchuria with the same disrespect. Some 600,000 Chinese lost their lives in the whole ordeal. The majority of the people that lost their lives were not military personal.
