North Korea

Since September 11th the United States has been looking especially hard at possible hostile countries. In the last few months the subject of North Korea and their nuclear arsenal has been an important one. I believe North Korea does pose a threat to the United States but I do honestly believe they are not our number one priority right at this moment, Iraq is.
North Korea hasn't been involved in a war in almost fifty years; Iraq has been involved in several conflicts in the last twenty-five years. In the past North Korea has made themselves available for communication and meetings with the U.N., Iraq refuses to listen to the United Nations no matter how simple their suggestions are, and Iraq still continue to use and stockpile weapons of mass destruction.
So what does all this mean? That North Korea won't use their nuclear weapons? I don't believe that but I think that Iraq still poses a bigger threat to the u.s., nukes or no nukes. North Korea has a much better track record than Iraq and North Korea can be reasoned with. .
North Korea has had nuclear capabilities since the early 1990's, and we helped them set up their first nuclear reactor. The government believes that in the ten years that North Korea had their reactor running that they were able to stockpile enough plutonium to build at least two nuclear bombs. In 1997 they shut down their reactors and were believed to have started a "basement bomb" program. The good thing for us is that "basement bomb" yield very little pure uranium and the uranium it does produce is of low quality and produced very slowly. Harvard professor Ashton Carter says "The United States cannot let North Korea develop a nuclear arsenal. One or two bombs is one thing, an indefinite number are another." I agree with his statement but he makes it seem like one or two bombs can't do any damage. they can!.
So what can we do? We basically have only two options with dealing with North Korea.
