When being asked if one is sloppy or neat, two questions come to mind. Am I neat and compulsive or compulsive and lazy? The way I see sloppy people is as compulsively lazy, and the way I see neat people is as obsessive compulsive. I found Mrs. Suzanne Britt's essay, "Neat People Versus Sloppy People" to be a great read. I find myself personally to be both a neat and sloppy person. My military uniforms, bathroom, bedroom, and schoolwork are all great examples of how I am both sloppy and neat.
My neatness with my military uniforms is only a product of boot camp redundancy. However compulsive neatness is still a habit that is a part of me. Each one of my military uniforms is placed out with whatever knife or Gerber tool I will wear on my side. The rank is pinned on, and the uniforms are always pressed and ironed. I always have my insignia's sewn on at their proper measurements.
In the bathroom is another place where I feel neatness really counts. I know if I go to another person's house and their bathroom is atrocious I feel nasty. I would not want someone to feel that way at my home. In my bathroom I keep all the face wash, shampoo, and soap in order of use on the side of the shower. The razors and shaving gel are kept in separate drawers from the toothbrushes and toothpaste. The towels and toiletries are always neatly stacked and stocked up.
Even-though I am neat in those areas of my life I am quite the opposite in others. My bedroom is a prime example of my sloppiness. The floor of my room looks like the beaches of Normandy. There are clothes strewn aimlessly across the floor. Empty used cups and dirty dishes lie around from neglect, never having made it back to the kitchen sink. My bed is never made the sheets and pillows still resemble a nightmare with tossing and turning. I could consider myself lucky if I could make one pass through my room without tripping over the mess.
My schoolwork is another place where my sloppiness rears its ugly head.
