National Speed Limit

            
             Gentlemen, we are gathered today to vote upon the creation of a national speed limit. A national speed limit is needed from state to state since the speed limits on interstates vary so greatly. For example in Montana the speed limit is 75mph and on an identical road in Oregon the speed limit is 50mph. .
             I"m going to tell you a story about my friend Cliff. Cliff is a sheriff who lives in Montana and he has owned a Ferrari for many years without receiving a ticket. One day Cliff decided to go on a road trip to California after visiting his cousin in Washington. Cliff went through Washington without any problems with the law. After visiting his cousin, Cliff left for California to visit his parents. .
             Cliff was on his way across the Columbia River when the speed limit changed for no reason. It was a remote area and there was no reason for the speed to change, Cliff didn't see the sign that was hidden way off the road. So Cliff was driving through an Oregon desert and didn't once think that there could have been a slower speed limit because it was a straight road for hundreds of miles. Cliff continued to clip through this desert at 70mph during the day, and when he approached a town he started to look for a speed zone, and he didn't realize that the speed limit was 50mph. So cliff went by this town. Just as he was leaving, cliff fell victim to a speed trap, since he was going 20mph over. Cliff received a $400-dollar speeding ticket even though he had a perfect record and it was his first time in the area.
             Now this upset Cliff since he ,too, was an officer of the law and he knew that there was no reason for this ridiculous speed through a desert. After all it was his first time, in the state. Cliff fought this battle. However ,he lost since the towns judge was in favor of these slow and ridiculous speeds. You see the town prospered by catching travelers off guard.
             How would you feel if this had happened to you? What if you were the tourist who got caught off guard by a speed trap that was only set to raise revenue for the town? Imagine that you were cruising through a desert at 70mph and suddenly the speed limit dropped to 50mph for no reason at all, and you didn't notice it.
