in contact with the Colorado Department of Fire and Rescue. I begin to explain the situation to .
the dispatcher, and she informs me that because of the abnormal amount of snow that the Rockies have received this year, it could be up to two weeks before she could send a rescue team to find me. Knowing when I would be rescued made life a little bit easier. Nevertheless, I must prepare for the long road ahead. .
Since I need to survive for two long weeks, I decide to make food my next priority. I am glad that I grabbed the knife before I abandoned the plane. The knife will allow me to carve up my prey, whatever that may be. I walk through the woods for about eight hours and there is no sign of wildlife. Just as I am about to give up on my search for the evening, I spot a deer in the distance digging in the snow for some plants or branches to eat. I quietly creep up on this animal and jump on its back. With my knife in hand, I reach underneath the neck and slice its throat. As the deer falls to the ground, I begin to feel remorse for the act that I have just committed. There is an old saying that only the strong survive. With this deer, I have more than enough food to last the next two weeks. As Gloria Gaynor so aptly put it in 1983, "I will survive!" As I drag the deer through the forest, I find a cave and decide that this would be a great place to take shelter for the night.
