Music Education

By the time college started, I had learned the clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, piano, and trumpet. I wanted to learn more and I acted like a sponge in Music Theory. That is where I found that I loved writing music as well. You may be wondering "Why write your own music?" I have already used my own writings to aid in the teaching of students. I wrote music to assist in the learning of certain techniques on clarinet and tone production. I wrote music for a clarinet studio class that I taught every week. As my degree of knowledge increases, so my thirst to divulge this knowledge increases. I also love a learning atmosphere. I strive to accomplish this frequently, but have been unable to achieve this daily.
The aesthetics of music is essential in anybody's live. Music is a part of our culture. There is no escape from this increasing trend. It is in our elevators, restaurants, cars, homes and even football games. If it such an integral part of our daily lives, then it has importance. Music is the only subject where it takes both the teacher and the students to create the intended piece of art. The student has an extremely active role in the production of the piece. There are also several ways to interpret a single piece of music. The problem with that is that no one is really wrong. Every person's opinion is correct. Music is also art that one needs not see. The next time you listen to music, close your eyes and imagine what is being flashed in your imagination. Music induces creativity. This newfound creativity can spread to the students writing, drawing, even reasoning skills.
Music also plays an important role in therapy. One case is actually me. I was a timid, depressed teenager. Music was my only outlet for frustration, sadness, and anger. Jazz played an important role in this therapy. I was able to emote my feelings through soloing. Granted, I was not all that great at soloing until later in life, but it was sufficient at the time.
