Mr. Smith Goes To Washington

Smith Goes To Washington is a film that depicts the hardships a man recently named senator goes through. Being that the motion picture is now over sixty years old, some of the ways procedures are carried differ from the way they are approached now. Though some traditional ways are still cherished.
Clear and outdated aspects of the film are defined by the "pages". Which were little boys doing busy work in the senate. Where as now the people who do that work are college age. At that day and age there were no women or people of color who were in the senate either. Yet the senate today is still mostly Anglo Saxon there are minorities that serve in it and there are women now-a-days. The film also should the senate filled with all of the senators present. This is not accurate. Most senators these days are elsewhere. Another inaccuracy is how the movie depicted and audience or a lot of spectators in the gallery of the senate. Not a lot of people attend these sessions.
Though there are differences in the movies senate and real life but there are also relevant things as well. The order in which things take place or procedures are the same. The senate always opens with a prayer and you will always hear the senators address the "chair" as Mr. President. The film did a wonderful job of showing how filibusters work. Mr. Smith stood talking for 20 some odd hours. The film also delivered a good scenario about yielding the floor. Many senators tried to get Smith to yield but after a bad first time experience he chose not to go along. The films story was based on corruption that was taking place in the senate. Corruption still takes place more than ever in this day and age. Also it showed how people in the senate have opposing issues.
All in all the film was a good piece of historical.
