Michael Wilks

            Art has the power of bringing different ideas and relating them to one another. The painting by Michael Wilks is a good example of this. In his painting he gives three-hundred and sixty things that begin with the letter A. In his painting he take extremely different images and relates them to each other.
             In the lower left hand corner of this painting is an ear on the wall. This gives off the impressing that that the walls can here. The people in the painting are never truly alone because there is always some one or something lurking nearby. The two admirals that are just above the ear are watching closely to the situation below. The Indian who has shot the Arab in the back with his spear has no idea that two admirals are watching him. .
             In the shadows there is a painter closely observing his subject. He is wildly intent on his painting, such that he does not want to disturb the natural behavior of his observations. Just above the painter on a ledge is a seagull. It is peering over the scene like a hawk. Nothing is out of the seagulls view, but nobody can see the seagull. No one seems to pay attention to him, and that is just why he is perched in such a high position. .
             The only living beings that have caught on to the spying are the doves in the cage. They are wild with rage. There body positions suggest a frenzy of emotion to rile up the masses. They are caged animals with no way of communicating except for being loud and crazy. The rest of the scene pays no attention to them because they have always been a crazy bird.
             This is how art can relate extremely different ideas to each other and make them relate in some way.
