Good sound business management can be applied into any forum. Whether in the corporate world, the military or even our own households, management plays a role. Every aspect of management is a result of a process or situation requiring attention. What separate successful managers from the unsuccessful managers are many factors? Some of these factors or principals are simple while others are not. All hold equal weight and all can change in priority at any given time. What may be the priority today may not be tomorrow. What was once a standard process today may be a future managerial crisis? .
Being able (available) to listen to our workers is the first thing we should grasp as a good effective manager. All managers are human and have their own personal characteristics. Other people have ideas that may or may not improve a process or condition in the work environment. They may have a better way to plan, or an idea to improve the conditions of the workspace, which may improve production. They, and I emphasize they, may have an idea but if we don't listen, this idea my never materialize. As managers we need to ensure that our people hear what we say also. Through a cohesive understanding that they matter, our employees tend to feel as part of the team and show a desire and a want to succeed. This improves morale in the workforce and fosters a feeling that they are the company. Most will tell you that it's for the money that they work. This is true to an extent. Many people with high paying employment leave their positions because they are not satisfied. If not the pay then what is it? It's self worth, a feeling of satisfaction that knowing they are making a contribution to something. Job satisfaction plays a large part in who we are and what we want to become. We choose a career path on how much money we can make but it is really a decision on what we want to do with our lives that leads us to pick a particular field of employment.
