Martian Luther King Jr.


             was born Tuesday, January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, to the proud parents Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr., and Alberta Williams King. On June 18, 1953, Martin Luther King, Jr. married his wife Coretta Scott at her home in Marion, Alabama. Together they had four children their names are: Yolanda Denise, Martin Luther III, Dexter Scott, and Bernice Albertine. Martin Luther King had a tremendous impact on the world during his time and in the world today. He is not the only person who played a role in changing the world but he definitely stands out as one of the most influencing. He truly changed the world that we live in today by never giving up on his beliefs and always going to extra mile no matter what it cost.
             Segregation and Racism was a major problem and in 1954, major changes started occurring. The Supreme Court ruling of Brown vs. the Board of Education ruled that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. Later on that year, Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her seat to a white person. King, the leader of the newly formed Montgomery Improvement Association takes on the leadership of the bus boycott, which lasted 381 days. The boycott had a huge effect on the company and worked very well, because 70 percent of the bus riders were black. The Bus Company had no riders so one-third of all the drivers were let go. King and his followers ended the boycott and on December 21, the black and the whites rode together for the very first time on buses that had formerly been segregated. On May 17, 1957, King delivered his first address to the nation, which in it he spoke out on the need for the right for the blacks to vote. .
             One short month after delivering his speech, he had a meeting with the Vice President Nixon. His meeting with Nixon was a success, because on September 9 Congress passed the Civil Rights Act. The sit-ins began in 1960, when King and his followers refused to leave a lunch counter at a Woolworth's store.
