In China, the years from 1949-1976 are known as the Mao years. There was growth and change taking place in China during this time. New policies were passes as well as new Mao government campaigns. Some policies were successful while others failed to properly achieve the desired affect. .
In 1949, the Peoples Republic was able to consolidate a strong framework that included both urban and rural areas. The first actions of the Peoples republic were very important because they needed to set grounds for further polices to be laid on. They were the "three anti" and the "five anti" campaigns. The three anti campaigns were against waste, corruption, and bureaucratism. The "five anti" campaigns were bribery, tax evasion, fraud, the stealing of state property, and theft of economic secretes. Many large companies had to pay large amounts of money to the government that they did not previously have to pay; these companies thus fell into governmental control. The "three anti" and "five anti" campaigns were successful because the country's public health system improved as well .
and the Peoples Republic gained a new sense of participation and pride. .
One of the last actions of the Mao ended up being the biggest failure. The Anti Lin Biao, Anti Confucius Campaign was a "sign of continuing influence of the cultural revolutions leaders" attack on the past"(368). At one time the Mao pushed for Lin Biao to be a powerful political leader. It wasn't until after Lin Biao died before the campaign was started. It was attacking someone that they had at one time liked for pushing for capitalism. Attacking Confucius went against the beliefs of a huge portion of the Peoples Republics population. The campaign made Confucius out to represent the Slave owners. These types of policies in the late Mao period led for the winding down of the Mao period.
From the years 1949-1976, the Mao did an excellent job in passing policies and building China as a communist power.
