There are many things that go into the make up of a neighborhood. A detailed census report is taken every ten years. The census takes of poll of things like income, race, sex, age, and even the way people commute to work. All these things can give a person a better view of how the neighborhood runs and who lives in it. The two neighborhoods in New York City we concentrated on were the Hunter neighborhood and Little Italy. .
Although we wanted to concentrate just on Little Italy it was much too small (it only took up three city blocks) and so we also had to incorporate Chinatown as well. This wasn't too large a problem because both neighborhoods are ethnically based, Little Italy with its native colors and Chinatown with its native language and culture. .
New York City is divided into different areas and forms neighborhoods according to race, wealth, religion, and so on. The village is known for it's thriving artist community just as Harlem is known for being densely populated with African Americans, Boro Park in Brooklyn is known for it's Orthodox community, and Chinatown is obviously named for it's many Asian residents. Of the two neighborhoods we focused on was made almost all made up of white people and the other was mostly made up of Asian people except for Little Italy which is obviously Italian.

These two neighborhoods are incredibly diverse from their establishments to the people that live in them. You can notice the extreme differences just by walking through a few blocks of the neighborhoods. Little Italy for example is full of Italian pride you can.
see it everywhere from the store windows to the red, white, and green painted fire hydrants, poles, and meters. Little Italy reminds me of New York after September 11th, full of pride and the colors of the United States. The Hunter neighborhood on the other hand is very neutral and has kept its history that can still be seen in much of its architecture.
