A Hospital In Turmoil

In recent years, it seems as though every business must go back to basics and realign itself. This is a lengthy process that can be worked on over a period of a few years. Often times training and in-services are parts of this process. Faith Community Hospital is at a point in its history where it can either continue at the pace it is going or go into the ground or it can go back to basics and build from there. It is my recommendation that Faith Community Hospital identifies its major issues, realize its goals, and come up with a plan to reach these goals. In the following report, I have identified the issues, evaluated the issues, and have planned out a course of action for Faith Community Hospital to take to achieve the goals it desires.
             .
             Existing Issues.

             • Patients refusing certain medical services.

             • Staff refusing to provide certain services.

             • Staff providing DNR orders with out written proof.

             • Staff not providing DNR orders that are written.

             • Staff pharmacists taking installment payments.

             • Un-authorized services for free.

             • Staff refusal to serve patients with out insurance confirmation.

             • Fruitless examinations for terminally ill.

             • Increased patient cost.
In evaluation of these issues, we must look at the possible causes of these issues. The first issue that we need to examine is why patients are refusing certain services. It is clear that Faith Community Hospital delivers quality services to all individuals. One possible reason for the refusal of services could be due to the patients own personal convictions. These convictions could be religious, ethical, or moral. We all have a right to make the choices that we feel will be in our best interest. A second issue that needs examining is the staff's refusal to provide certain services. Again, the most likely reason for this is the staff's personal convictions.
