I have always been in favor of having legal and regulated prostitution. Many people feel that marijuana and other drugs should be legal and regulated, like they are in other countries where not as many drug-related problems exist. I feel this way about prostitution. After all, prostitution has been around since the beginning of time. It is not going to go away, so I feel that the United States should take control of it. .
While some people would be morally opposed to the legalization of prostitution, it would have many benefits, if regulated, which would benefit the economy, the overall health of those who currently choose to engage in prostitution, reductions in domestic violence, and more jobs in the medical field.
First, by setting higher-than-normal tax rates on prostitution, more funding will be provided to aid in our struggling economy. In Japan alone, the prostitution industry brings in an amount that is nearly equivalent to its military budget. While some would argue that these expensive fees would deter potential clientele, I believe that having prostitution available without having to worry about many things, including breaking the law, would lure a new crowd of patrons, who wouldn't otherwise make of use of prostitutes. Of course, some of the money collected from patrons will go towards basic costs involved when constructing establishments. Other monies collected from patrons would go toward the hiring of doctors and other personnel.
Legalizing and regulating prostitution would also have many health benefits to everyone, especially those who would make use of the regulated prostitution. Allowing people to frequent prostitutes would lower their stress levels, lowering the risk for heart attack and high blood pressure, and lowering the risk for domestic violence. It would do this because making use of prostitution services would allow them to do something that is medically proven to make you feel better.
