My Antonia is a heartwarming story about Jim Burden and Antonia Shimerda's experiences that they shared together throughout their lives. Through thick and thin both characters remained good friends for life. Antonia and Jim grew up a lot from the beginning till the end of the story. Jim gained a valuable education to help him throughout life, and Antonia married a man named Antone Cuzak. The circle of life has taken it's own course for both characters.
Antone Cuzak is the better suited husband for Antonia, compared to Jim Burden. Because both he and Antonia are from the same homeland of Bohemia. Also, they both immigrated to the United States from there. Country living is a passion for both characters and they work the land that they live on. Fate has brought Antone and Antonia together to be wed. Sharing the same compassion for each other, and same backgrounds, has given their marriage a solid foundation for a bright future. .
On the other hand, Jim Burden is an excellent childhood friend to Antonia, but is not best suited as her husband. He and Antonia have different lifestyles than each other. Jim is more into city life, where Antonia is a country woman. Also, Jim tends to choose his education over love, which would end up hurting Antonia. A marriage between the two would probably not last because of these differences.
Due to Antone and Antonia's similar qualities and lifestyles, Antone is the better suited as Antonia's husband. However, Jim Burden will always be there for Antonia as a best friend would be. Both men do share one similar connection of being linked to a great woman, Antonia.
