The internet has allowed our world to become a globally connected network that advances knowledge everyday. A few years ago the internet was changed forever with the creation of Napster. Napster was the first program that allowed internet users to download music and files with a click of the mouse. However, Napster was a company that was said to be profiting from the website, so musicians took a stand and shut Napster down. By that time millions of people had already become used to the idea of free downloads and wanted more. Kazaa was then created to replace Napster, but was a little bit different. Kazaa is a sharing program, which means you are getting files from Kazaa users, rather than Kazaa itself. People should be allowed to share files on Kazaa without the threat of prosecution.
There are many reasons why Kazaa is a legitimate program for people to use freely. First off, Kazaa is a network that millions of people are connected to. It can be used to share music, videos, pictures, text, programs, or any other file you can think of. This allows all of the users to be up on all new information in our nation. Anyone who has access to the internet can be involved; it matter if you"re ten years-old or 75. Users can get information from a broad group of people that can help open minds to new things. It is a great way to spread culture and that is a huge part of what makes America special.
I can speak from experience when I say that Kazaa has helped me with several school projects. Downloaded pictures and audio samples help make class presentations much more impressive. However, if I had to pay for those features I doubt I would have added them. It has been a valuable tool for me when I look for newspaper and magazine articles. Overall, Kazaa is useful for people that are not as rich as rock-stars that wish to have information or music.
The thing that really bothers me is the fact that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is going after users that have downloaded music.
