In Vetro Fertilization

According to the rights of the human person, "the human person has the right to be respected, is the subject of rights, (and) possesses rights," (Maritain, p.65). A question that is constantly under debate is exactly when is a new live person created. This debate can be solved when looking at when the spirited soul is created. This occurs at the moment of conception, when the egg is fertilized by the sperm, and God creates the human spirited soul (Schooyans, p.26). At this time, the person is created and by nature, they are a social being which requires relationships with other people. At any time during the lifetime of the person, even while it is still an embryo, it is immoral to increase violence upon it. Principles of philosophy says that good ought to be done and evil avoided. The rights of the human person can be summarized as:.
If man is morally bound to the things which are necessary to the .
fulfillment of his destiny, obviously, then, he has the right to fulfill his .
destiny; and if he has the right to fulfill his destiny he has the right to the .
things necessary for this purpose (Maritain, p.65).
A person has the right of the human person from the moment of its conception, and it would be immoral to call human beings into existence knowing that they will risk these rights as their life progresses (Schooyans, p.34). These rights of the human person will be violated in several different circumstances during the course of in vitro fertilization.
In vitro fertilization exercises the killing of potential human beings. During the process of in vitro fertilization, there is only a success rate between 10-20% of each embryo which is implanted into the uterus (Schooyans, p.27). This fact alone states that for the remaining 80-90% of the time, the fertilized embryo is aborted from being born. This is abortion. This is taking away the right of the human person which denies the person to fulfill his destiny which was given to him at the moment it was conceived.
