In todays society, many single mothers have to depend on the welfare system and low wage employment as a source of income to support their family. In many instances this is the only means of survival and the only way they can afford to feed their families. How single mothers survive during these time is a critical element, in reading Making Ends meet in the University of Phoenix Issues in contemporary business explains some ways and gives examples of how they survive. I support the welfare system for people who do not have a decent income, they should not have to lack the basic necessities. .
There are many instances where people need the government to support them such as being elderly, physical illnesses, low-income jobs, single parent, uneducated, unskilled, loss of income and many more instances where welfare help is needed. Mothers these days also face the challenges of raising there children alone and not have a decent source of income to support them and their families. Managing their in come is difficult due to inflation and rising cost of living standards.
Even thought everyone does not feel the same, welfare is much needed for basic necessities, it will not solve all the problems of the poor it will help cover the cost of food, housing and utilities. Many single mothers do not depend solely of welfare to feed there families, the income that the government provides usually is not enough to support all of there basic needs. Many women have other sources of income in addition to welfare to support them. They have other wants and needs that the system is not designed to take care of. Many women have side jobs that are not reported to take care of these needs such as, cooking, housecleaning, and babysitting. These side jobs take care of entertainment, clothing and other necessities the recipient feel they deserve or they desire. .
Making Ends Meet describes what Edin and Lein conducted telephone studies studies in Chicago to determine how do they maintain there house hold with the income they receive.
