My research paper is going to be about the popular sport of snowboarding. I will discuss who invented the first snowboard, how snowboarding progressed over the years, and what it is today. I will also mention some of the main snowboarding stars of today. I will also include some pictures of the snowboarding champions in my report, and pictures of people snowboarding on the mountain. This is a good topic for me because, snowboarding is my favorite thing to do in the world. I have been an avid snowboarder for about nine years now. I go to Colorado, and California to go snowboarding all the time. So I have first hand experience with the sport of snowboarding. I will now start in on a rough draft of my research paper. .
THE ART OF SNOWBOARDING.
It is very hard to say who actually invented the first snowboard. People were always sledding down a hill on some kind of sled. The transition to snowboarding took place when one of those people decided to stand up and go down the hill on there feet. One of these people was named Jack Burchett. He cut out a plank of plywood in 1929 and secured his feet to the plywood with horse reins and clothesline. This resulted in the first snowboard created. Sherman Poppen, a chemical gases engineer from Muskegon, invented another snowboard called "The Snurfer" He made this snowboard by binding two skis together and securing a rope to the nose, so the rider could hold it for stability and balance. People loved his Snurfer and pretty soon he sold over a half- million of them in 1966. At this point the snurfer was still looked at as only for children to use. Dimitrije Molovich also created one of the first boards by riding cafeteria trays down hills in the winter. He created a board called the winterstick, which was based on the snurfer with the capabilities of snow skis. Articles about his Winterstick were published in many magazines. This helped snowboarding gain some popularity.
