            Hamlet: A Classic Masterpiece of Literature.
             In order to consider a work a classic, there are many elements that must be present in the piece of literature. For example, it must have a plot which can trespass the generations and touch many different people. Of the many works of Shakespeare that have endured over the centuries, Hamlet is a play that has captured the hearts and minds of its readers through its timeless themes and brilliant character portrayal. Hamlet touches on many issues that were not discussed in society at the time it was written such as love, incest, revenge, suicide, and murder. These topics remain current in modern society, which is the reason audiences and readers empathize with the play and why it has preserved through time.
             Hamlet is indecisive and analyzes situations along with the consequences yet when put in an emotional turmoil he acts out of passion, which is a common instinctive reaction out of most people. The ideas Hamlet touches upon, such as love, betrayal, and revenge are basics to human experiences. Shakespeare intentionally wanted the readers to enter Hamlet's mind and be put in his shoes, making sure the audience is in tune with his feelings from the beginning. The reader understands the distress Hamlet is experiencing when contemplating on how to go about the murder of his uncle. Hamlet is a classic work that has been continually referred to over time due to its universal themes, the actions and feelings expressed through Hamlet himself, and the controversial issues found within the play that all readers can sympathize with. .
             One of the main themes of Hamlet is death. Death is part of the play right from the beginning when Hamlet arrives in Denmark for his father's funeral. His father's death is so upsetting to him that he is contemplating suicide because he has lost all sense of purpose. Hamlet seemed to be very interested in death, and over the course of the play he considers death from a great many perspectives.
