             General Motors was founded on September 16, 1908 by William Carpo (Billy) Durant. GM is one of the world's largest vehicle manufactures and has expanded worldwide. GM currently has operations and joint ventures in North America, Latin America, Africa/Middle East, Asia/Pacific, Eastern Europe, and Western Europe. GM offers products and services to millions of people worldwide. .
             Over the years GM has established global partnerships with Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd., Isuzu Motors Ltd. and Suzuki Motor Corp. of Japan and Fiat Auto Spa of Italy. GM operates on of the world's largest financial services, which is GMAC. This company offers automotive, mortgage and business financing and provides insurance to customers worldwide. GM also has a program called OnStar that focuses on vehicle safety, security and on information services. .

             GM has operations worldwide in 32 countries and vehicles are sold in over 190 countries. GM employs over 349,000 people globally in the automotive business and subsidiaries. GM's automotive brands are Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Holden, Hummer, Oldsmobile, Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn and Vauxhall.
             The following are some of the highlights of GM's history: In 1948 during WWII, GM delivered more than $12,300,000,000 worth of war material to lead the Allied war effort, including airplanes and parts, trucks, tanks, marine diesels, guns, shells, and other miscellaneous products. In 1969 GM manufactured the guidance and navigation systems that guided to Apollo 11 astronauts to the man's first landing on the moon and safely back to earth. Also in 1971 GM designed and manufactured a mobility system for the Lunar Roving vehicle that enabled Apollo 15 astronauts to accomplish mankind's first vehicular drive on the moon. In 1980 with US economy and industry in recession, GM suffered its first corporate financial loss since 1920. In 1999 GM created a new business group called eGM to bring together all of the company's electronic commerce and Internet marketing initiatives as well as OnStar in a single global organization.
