Girl Culture

" Those girls have been brought up with two different cultures in their household, which enables them to take a second look at American culture and realize that other cultures are different. The media has an impact on even the youngest of girls, "I really want to be a teenager. Now. Really fast. [Teenagers] dress up cool so boys like them. I saw it in a movie." The speaker was a mere six years old and is easily influenced by the media; her young mind is very impressionable. She wants to demonstrate what she saw on the big screen, taught that growing up wearing cool clothes will get her places in life and make her happy. This influence is everywhere in our society. .
For women in the fashion industry, the benefit of a high paying profession outweighs the negative impact on young girl's ideals towards normality. "I don't think my modeling is good for society. I mean, ultimately, what am I doing? I"m making a bunch of little girls feel bad about their bodies and go anorexic. I don't think I"m doing the world any good." The media causes many adolescents to become insecure about their appearances. .
This pressure to conform is very contradictory with the other idea that our media projects onto young women, the idea of being unique, standing out and getting attention. Girls want to stand out by being beautiful, but to be beautiful they have to adhere to the American beauty ideal.
Girls want to look pretty. They want to be sparkly, shiny. Stick out of the crowd. That's what I do. Attention is a part of your life. If you didn't get any attention, how would anyone recognize you? How would you anybody know you? You need to have attention in order for people to know who you are or for people to see you. .
Girls feel that getting attention is the only way to get anything in life. "Attention is something people just crave. It's a form of love, and everybody needs love. To get attention from people means they care about you.
