Fried Green Tomatoes

Many aspects of a child's life determine the way in which one acts, matures and views life. I have found that one of the most influential elements of my life would be my stepmother, Joanne Nolan. Jo has been there for me as a mother figure through thick and thin, she taught me to read between the lines in every situation because there is usually more to a situation to what it seems. She helped me to realize that I would like to end up like her, courageous, motivated and wise. The poem "The Wind Beneath my Wings" written by Larry Henley and Jeff Silbar is a great example of Jo and my relationship when we first met. The second poem "I Said a Mother's Prayer for You" written by John Robbins represents the way that Jo has treated me as a daughter and I have always shown her love as though she were my mother. .
For the first three years of knowing Joanne, I disliked her to a great extent. Each day I grew bitchier towards her, and for some reason, she became more pleasant. I would tell her that I hated her and she would respond with an, "I love you". If my father had admired something that had been done around the house, she would instantly say that I had done it, giving me credit for all of her own work. .
After about three years I began to realise the way in which I had been acting and I had also taken notice of the way that Jo had been trying to teach me my lesson. Jo wanted me to realize for myself what I had been doing, she knew I couldn't be told. She had done so much for our family, financially and emotionally. She helped the three of us children through the toughest time of our life, our parents divorcing, without us even realizing. Little did any of us know that she has a psychology degree.
"The Wind Beneath My Wings", written by Larry Henley and Jeff Silbar symbolizes the way in which Jo treated me as an angel through first years of us knowing each other even though I gave her no appreciation or gratitude in return.
