             Part One: Observation.
The teacher began class standing outside the classroom doors greeting each student as they walked in. Each student would take his or her seats and the bell would ring. The teacher then gave the students a minute or two to settle down. He then spoke friendly but firmly to get them to listen up and begin class. The teacher then begins class by going through current events. He does this with all the classes he teaches whether it is freshmen or seniors. He uses the Chicago Sun-Times as a reference and visual for the students. He starts off by showing the students his Sun-Times and points out the major headlines. He then reads some important passages from the article so that the students get an idea of what the article is about. The teacher then asks the students what the main point of the article is. Such as where it takes place, who was involved, and when it happened. He talks about world events and ties in prior knowledge to the articles he was reading about. A lot of the articles dealt with the crisis in the Middle East and the Palestinians that took over the Church of the Nativity. The teacher reads the article and asks the students a question like, "Who is the Prime Minister of Israel?" "What steps are Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Yasser Arafat taking to settle this dispute and try to end the terrorism?" These students are able to answer based on prior class discussions and current events talks. He then asks the class if they have heard anything on this press release.
