Therefore it's much easier for the ruler, he would know what the people expect and the rule has already been established for him. Another reason why it would be easier is that the people of that state would already be familiar with the family and can come to expect what the new ruler would be like. In modern day there are not many monarchies left, but in a sense democracy is a form of in heritage. For example, the presidential pool in the United States is very limited, not everyone can be president nor have the chance. In many ways, those in the senate or those who hold political power in the United States can be compared to the aristocrats of the past. They usually hold political power for life and their children would more than likely inherit their father's seat, if he should decide go into politics. There may not be a direct line into the Presidency, but it's still limited to selected few. Presidential candidates can be view as Princes, it just a matter of who gets chosen. Franklin Delano Roosevelt happened to be one of the chosen ones and he fitted into the role of ruler greatly. .
Former President Delano Roosevelt comes closest to a dictator in America than any other presidents that came before or after him. President Roosevelt was elected by the people to lead in 1932, during the great depression. During the 1930s the almost the whole world was in turmoil, people just wanted hope and someone to lead them out of the darkness, like a ray of hope, Roosevelt promised them the moon and the stars. He promised them relief and would do all that's in his power to see them through the rough times. The people believed him and he soon became the very next president. One of the thing that Roosevelt did was did what he promised, which made the people loved him. Machiavelli suggested that a ruler can rule by love or by fear (Machiavelli, p26). Even though Machiavelli suggested that it is more effective to be feared than loved, Roosevelt chose right by choosing to be love by the people.
