I feel that computers today drive our society. Modern technology today is truly amazing. In the past ten years there has been major advancements in the computer world. There are several companies that are ultimately responsible for this. I focused mainly on Advanced Micro Devices, ViewSonic, and ASUS. These companies have produced extraordinary hardware within the past ten years. I feel that these three companies play a major role in the Computer-technology world today.

AMD is an acronym for Advanced Micro Devices. The arrow on the side of the letters AMD is suppose to symbolize the principle of growth in the right direction. AMD was founded on May 1, 1969 by Jerry Sanders and seven others who all had the same dream, to start a company that would offer the "building blocks of ever-increasing complexity to benefit the manufacturers of electronic equipment in the computation, communication, and instrumentation markets" (www.amd.com). Since 1969 AMD has grown from a fledgling start-up, head quartered in the living room of one of its co-founders, John Carey, to a global corporation and is now the second largest supplier of PC Central Processing Units, and is a leading supplier of non- volatile flash memory. The company is head quartered in Sunnyvale, California on One AMD Place, PO Box 3453. One of the co-founders W.J. Sanders III is now the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AMD. The President and chief operating officer of AMD is Hector de J. Ruiz. The total number of employees that AMD has is 14,757, which has grown drastically from the 53 they had at the end of its first year in existence in May 1970. AMD employs people nationally such as in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Japan.
In 2001 the AMD Corporation's Revenue was 3.9 billion dollars but its Net Income was a 61 million-dollar loss, also their total assets are 5.6 billion dollars. On the New York Stock Exchange Advanced Micro Devices" stock symbol is simply AMD.
