Civil War Meets Social Psycology

Psychology is always a major part in wars of the world. Wars come about because of people who think differently than others. The Civil War was a war where basically only Americans were involved. This war had the most American casualties. The Civil War was one of America's worst wars, because the winners were also losers. There are some concepts of psychology that relate to this war. .
The Civil war started with "The shot heard round the world" in 1861 and ended 4 years later in the year of 1865. This war was basically about the enslaving of African Americans. Slavery was big in the south, not so much in the north. There were only two groups involved in this war and they are the Confederates, which is the south and the Northern territories. At the end of the war after many Americans lost their lives the Emancipation Proclamation was released. This said that all slaves must be free. The north had come up victorious with the help of the British soldiers.
Stereotype was a big issue in this war. It's really the whole reason the war was started. Stereotype is when a group believes they are the same in some ways. Most of the time it is negative traits. The "white" southerners stereotyped the Africans Americans; they didn't believe they should be of the same class than themselves. Slavery wasn't started in the south, but it was followed because the stereotype flowed on to American shores about colored people. After the war stereotype was still there, it took over 100 years later for it to really leave.
Ethnocentrism is the biggest reason why this war came about. Ethnocentrism is when a person or usually a group thinks there better than other groups. The southerner's thought they were superior or better than the colored people so they colored people was discriminated and enslaved. Ethnocentrism is other way to say hatred toward the rest of the world. Everyone who was against slavery knew that everyone was the same there was no superior group, but people is the south had different thinking than the people in the north.
