Changing Teachers Salaries

.
The teachers that I have talked to for various class assignments have told me that some of the greatest rewards are from directly influencing students. I"m amazed at how these people can remain teachers after twenty or thirty years. The dedication they put forth is incredible. They come to class everyday with a dedication for helping children to learn. My next door neighbor retired many years ago from teaching. She taught for thirty years, and whenever we talk about it, her face glows. She has nothing but positive comments to tell me. She tells me of the many children who come back to her and tell her about the difference she made in their lives. My neighbor also shows me the boxes that fill her basement with cards from students and other various treasures she has received from teaching. .
Some people think that a teacher's day ends when the last bell rings. However, a teacher's day lasts longer than that. A teacher's day ends when the last child who needs extra help goes home. It ends when the last assignment is corrected and the lesson plans are made. Teachers make phone calls to concerned parents and set up parent teacher conferences. Some argue that teachers should make less than others because of the three month break they receive every year. However, if teachers are doing their jobs right, they need this break to recuperate and rest before beginning the next year. .
The funding for schools in Iowa is a limited amount of money and special education classes are getting cut. Students are now cramped into classrooms and teachers are finding themselves dealing with more obstacles, such as these children who need extra help. With the amount of students exceeding the optimum limit of student-teacher ratio in each classroom, teachers are finding it more difficult to give these individual children the attention they need. The government does not provide enough funding for schools to hire special needs teachers for classes putting an extra burden on the teachers who remain.
