The movie "Casino" is a story of how the mob won and lost Las Vegas. Martin Scorsese is a master in film making, skilled especially in the manipulation of imagery. "Casino" has a heroic ending, it's just short of three hours, and while the central plot advances slowly the film is filled with the amazing details of what is involved in running a major casino. There are a lot of scenes but is easy to fallow. There is a constant alertness of how greedy, violent and selfish society is, similar to another great hit "Godfather." .
Robert DeNiro is the star in "Casino" and he plays Sam "Ace" Rothstein, a smart man from the east coast who's handpicked by the mob to run the new Tangiers hotel and casino in Vegas. Ace is the perfect man for the job he's taken absolute power and changes the way casinos are run. Now the Tangiers is turning over more money than ever before, and Ace is the favorite businessman in the country. Of course by nature when you're in power, no good thing lasts forever, and Ace runs into some problems. Under Ace's direction the casino turns into an illegal operation where millions are taken from the tables. He has a hard time controlling Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) who is his old friend. He has a temper and dangerous mobster who uses his weight around town. Eventually he forms his own gang and draws too much attention causing stand offs between him and Ace. Even though Ace is a harsh man strictly down to business, when it comes to Ginger (Sharon Stone) his wife, he doesn't know how to handle her. At first the two were enjoying each other, than she started to fall in love with her criminal minded ex, played by James Woods. Her cost full expenses not only caused harm to their marriage but also Ace's business in Vegas. .
Casino is told in narration that is periodically interrupted to let the whole cast get a chance to speak. In one scene the action freezes while the actor tells why he is going to choose to what to say.
