Brave New World

They are enjoying there time there until they both witness a murder. Then on top of witnessing this Lenina realizes they do not have any soma; they are forced to deal with real emotions. Then they were wondering why someone would do such a thing, when they were brought up around their own happiness. .
They were puzzled. Then after this ordeal both Lenina and Bernard came across a woman and her child who didn't seem to blend in with the society they were living in. Then they came to find out that Linda was from their society and was left there on a vacation, and hasn't returned back since. Her son John was brought up in a strange way; always hearing about the society his mother was brought up in, but the Indians around him also had an effect on his upbringing. He was very confused and on top of that the society he was living in now with his mother did not accept him. He was stuck in between both worlds. His mother who was a very loving mother also taught him how to read; he read Shakespeare most of the time and learned how to express himself. After hearing what Linda had to say they convinced her and her son to come back to the perfect society with them. John disliked the outside world very much. Lenina tried to engage in sex with John, but John really loved Lenina. He learned how to express himself in this way and in the perfect society he was not satisfied with just a physical relationship. This made Lenina very upset. John then received some very very bad news; his mother was about to pass away. After John rushed home to see his mother for it was probably going to be the last he learned that his mother had passed away due to an overdose of soma. He then broke down and when he tried to say goodbye to his mother he was interrupted by a group of children who were told to view the death. This was a form of conditioning. Conditioning is when you get youngsters familiar with unusual behavior.
