Primary services were shattered; laws and order, with so many administrators struck down, barely exist in some areas. A sense of panic suffuse everyone and all of Europe. Doctors did what every they can, but the plague seemed unstoppable. Even the most expert physicians could do nothing about it. Some taught people to slap themselves to let the pain scare the Black Death. Some suggested to dip yourself in the gutter and makes you think that the Black Plague is not bad after all. Some also suggested cutting a hole through your head scull to let out the devil. (Do not try any of these above!) Lots of ignorant, insolent ways were insinuated at those times. The terrible truth is that nothing seems to work. .
A group of people in 1349, The Flagellant Brahren, as they were known, believe that the plague was a punishment for human sin, and that by torturing themselves they can show mankind's remorse.
They travel in parties of anywhere from 50 to 500 men, and were highly organized Led by a master, they moved from town to town, singing hymns and sobbing, they beat themselves till their flesh was torn. They perform this in public twice each day. They attacked churches, but their deeds are to be admired. .
The Real Cause .
?Bubonic Plague infects humans and various species. It is caused by Yersinia pestis (Pasteurella pestis), a bacterium transmitted by fleas that have fed on the blood of infected animals, usually rats. The bacterium multiplies in the flea's upper digestive tract. When the flea feeds again on a human or another rodent, it causes the freshly ingested blood to be regurgitated back in to the bite, along with plague bacteria. The circulatory system of the bitten individual then carries the bacteria through the body. .
The first signs of illness in humans appears within about a week. In a few hours our body temperature rises to about 40 degrees C, and we begin to be very ill, experiencing muscular pain, and mental disorganization, and madness.
