Bigfoot is a giant ape-like animal and walks on it's hind legs. It is said that it stands 6-10 feet tall and weighs around 700-2500 pounds. It has dark skin that is covered in black or brown hair. It's face is ape-like. It has a muscular chest with very powerful arms attached. Also, not to forget, very long and powerful legs. As the name says, it's feet are extremely large amounting up to around 12-22 inches.(Shuker, p.148).
It is believed that the Bigfoot comes from an extinct animal, the Gigantopithecus. Scientists believe that it may have crossed from it's Asian homeland into North America while the land-bridge connecting Siberia and Alaska still existed.(Shuker, p.149). Bigfoot got it's name from a road crew working in Northwest California in 1958. Nighttime work at the work site attracted Bigfoot, they threw gasoline tanks all around the site to try to keep the giant ape away and it did leave. When the workers looked around the site, they found giant footprints all over. That's how "Bigfoot" got it's name. Throughout time there has been many names for Bigfoot. There has been Bad Idians, Mountain Devils, Omaha Bushman, Sasquatch, Yeren and The Yeti.(Wolf, p.9).
