Beowulf And The Wanderer

There are a couple similarities between Beowulf and the Wanderer. There is a feeling of uncertainness of the future. In Beowulf, there is uncertainty of what is to happen to Beowulf's people now that he has passed on. The author gives a sort of premonition of war to be for the Geatish people with the Swedes. In the Wanderer, the earth-walker gives a sense of an ending for his life. He talks about the end of mankind and then goes on to describe what sounds like last words of wisdom. There is also a sense of unknowing at the end of this story.
One of the differences between Beowulf and the Wanderer are the styles they are written in. Beowulf is written in a story of the present. Everything is happening as you read it. It is an adventure story that spans the life of the title character, which fights against evil to let the righteous prevail. In the Wanderer, you follow the ramblings of an unknown man on his journey to find a new home after a great devastation. He speaks with a great sense of sorrow and hopelessness. He wishes to speak from his heart but it is unacceptable as he says, "I know indeed that it is a fine custom for a man to lock tight his heart's coffer, keep closed the hoard-case of his mind, whatever his thoughts may be." .
These are both stories of warriors who find their own paths in life, Beowulf experiencing the ups of war, and the Wanderer experiencing the downs.
