             Chapter 1.
             INTRODUCTION.
When we usually think of domestic violence between intimate partners we assume that the woman is the victim. However, the number of reported cases of male victims is increasing. Of those reported numbers, there are phenomenal numbers of unreported cases. There is documentation to support that male victims of intimate partner violence have been an epidemic for centuries, but victims are reluctant to come forward. .
There are many contributing factors as to why men are the smallest demographic to report being abused. For many men, the root of the problem of underreporting is an underlying fear of embarrassment and ridicule from others. This chapter will discuss how ideologies about masculinity are ingrained in male children and affect those who later become victims of domestic violence.
