Prescription and non prescription drugs are also abused. Prescription drugs are drugs that are prescribed by the doctor. Non-Prescription drugs are drugs that can be bought from the counter. Most often prescription drugs are abused by people that are prescribed muscle relaxers and anti depression pills. They become addicted to the way these medications make them feel. In non-prescription drugs people abuse medicines like Nyquil and Tylenol P.M because of the drowsy feeling it gives them. The last commonly abused drug is narcotics. Narcotics are illegal drugs like cocaine. Cocaine is most often used on a daily basis. It is used when ever a high comes down. This person is commonly referred to as a drug addict.
Abusers can be many different types of people. I will give specific examples of the types of people you might see abusing drugs. When you think about abusers, most people think of lower class people or prostitutes abusing drugs. You will be surprised to learn that abusers are everyday people or even the rich and famous. They are your average lawyers, teachers, doctors, or even entertainers. Drug abuse can arise from the simplest things like the death of a close family member. Drug abuse can also arise from deeper rooted things like being mentally or physically abused by a parent or family member. I have witnessed many famous people that abuse drugs. For example, recently the Queen of Pop, Whitney Houston admitted in a press conference in front of millions of people that she and her husband, famous singer Bobby Brown were addicted to drugs. In another interview a reporter asked her" Is it alcohol? Is it marijuana? Is it cocaine? Is it pills" Houston responds, "It has been at times" (Drug 1). Another example is the rich and famous Darryl Strawberry. Strawberry plays professional baseball in New York. He is also addicted to drugs. One reporter stated "The vast majority of New Yorkers, Yankee Fans or not, can not understand why a wealthy, talented player like Strawberry, is unable to give up his self destructive affair with drugs "(Provet 1) .
