I think the African lifestyle values culture and tradition as well as respecting others more than the Unites States does. The Africans respect one another and show it, although men are respected more than women most of the time that privilege is not abused, there is much more respect for their elders as well.
The tradition remains strong because they are so protective of it. There have been only very small changes to tradition they stay true to their history. If something comes along that could change there set ways of life, they immediately protect their lifestyle from change. Some examples if this is during peace week, the tribe by no means let Okonkwo get away with beating his wife, that was a sign of disrespect and they did not tolerate it. They respect them men of the village by serving them food and never talking back, although this may not be a positive act based on the ways of the United States there status of others and there importance is always respected. When Okonkwo commits suicide they refuse to take him down or touch him because it would be against there tribal religion, even though they were close to Okonkwo they remained true to there beliefs.
I think the United States has a more organized and civil government system than the African Tribe did. Many of the issues were similar as to what might happen in the United States like stealing, disputes between people and murder although the U.S. handle things much better. In the case of Murder I do not think there form of punishing Okonkwo for 7 years was realistic because the human life is more valuable than that. When Okonkwo beats his wife it was not taken as seriously as it would have been in the United States. I think they may treat there spouses badly there because since they have so many, each one has less importance where as the United States in most places you may only have one wife. The United States keeps things under control and has much more concern and security within communities and certain issues.
