Addiction

For instance a kid with blue collar parents who go to church every weekend could hate his/her parents views so much that it drives them to get in trouble or do drugs. His classmate Steve on the other hand had a couple of drunk addicts for parents and can't stand the lifestyle he grew up in. making him strongly against drinking and druging. Now the opposite of kid's like these are the ones that turn out just like their parents. If mom and dad played by the rules their whole lives and went to college then they would too. If though, their parents lived like rock stars and had dead end jobs then they would go down the same path.
Through my peers I've observed addiction to many different substances and what drives them to do so. Alcoholics drink to gain a desired comfort level or confidence that they've convinced themselves they can't obtain unless buzzed. I've noticed a lot of my alcoholic friends are very quiet, mellow and passive while sober. Once they get a couple drinks in them however, their confidence increases greatly. Making them more sociable, especially towards the opposite sex. Males often times get rowdy and tend to fight more due to this over-confidence. In general people just act on impulse instead of thinking through they"re actions first. A good way to sum it up is by this unknown quote, "a sober mans" thoughts are a drunk mans" words.".
Pot-heads, stoners, burnouts; all of these terms are used to describe those who abuse the most popular drug, marijuana. All marijuana smokers" have different reasons and justification for getting high, but I think it all stems back to a common cause. When some one is under the influence of weed, it temporarily puts their problems on the back burner so to say. It's like they disappeared. Once they come down though they came right back, making it a not very pleasant ending to a high. So how do they fix it, get high some more. This is a viscous cycle that never stop's until they fix their problems.
