Abuse

Therefore, although the women's lack of power is not their fault, they could cease the violence if they realized from the beginning that they are being wronged, and take action.
If there were more awareness in the community, women would be more likely to take action, which in turn would reduce the amount of domestic violence. Television, radio, and newspaper are all excellent means for communication which would all help to supply information about domestic violence. Through this type of communication there would not be a high number, if any, of abusive males who would end their abusive ways. However, this would help get information to victims of abuse. Through these commercials women can learn that what their husbands are doing is wrong. This is important to urge women to stop putting up with the abuse and to do something about it. Also, women are much more likely to take action if they know that they will be safe and that they will have somewhere to go. Aiming awareness at children would also help break the ongoing cycle of domestic violence. At school children should learn what is right and wrong. They should learn what healthy relationships and families look like and be urged to talk about what is going on at home. Awareness can also be aimed at couples before they get married through marriage preparation courses. These "prep" courses do exist now, but they are not very elaborate. Professional marriage counselors or domestic violence specialists should conduct these meetings and notes can be taken and held in the couple's permanent file. After every five years, or so, they can have a follow-up meeting. These meetings would be little trouble for most couples, and yet some abusive husbands may be caught. There are many steps that society in general can take to increase the amount of awareness, which would hopefully reduce the amount of domestic violence.
Although there are strict laws in place, they have not been used to their potential nor are they efficient enough to meet the needs of today's society.
