Abortion

In that case, Roe, a Texas resident, sought to obtain an abortion. Texas law prohibited abortions except to save the pregnant mother's life. The court came to the conclusion that a woman's right to an abortion fell within the right to privacy, protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. The decision gave a woman a right to abortion during the entire time of the pregnancy and defined different levels of state interest for regulating abortion in the second and third trimesters. As a result, the laws of 46 states were affected by the Court's ruling. The law that was made, stated that the "law protects only "legal persons" and that "legal personhood does not exist parentally." It authorized no legal restrictions on abortion in the first three months. No restrictions from then until viability except those needed to make the procedure safer for the mother. Abortion was allowed until birth if one licensed physician judged it necessary for the mother's "health."" .
Roe has totally reversed her thoughts about abortion since 1973. She says that it started out as a little lie, then it just grew bigger and bigger. She first lied about how she got pregnant; she was really having an affair. She says, "It was good for the cause. It read well in the newspapers. With the help of willing media the credibility of well-known columnists, the lie became known as the truth these past 25 years." She didn't go to the Supreme Courts to try and prove something. She didn't go because she was trying to correct her unwanted pregnancy and she didn't go for relief. She went to her lawyer asking if she knew how and where to get an abortion. Her lawyer knew perfectly where to get one, since she had already had one herself, but she lied. She lied, just as how Roe lied to them. She was just looking for a client and as Roe says," I was their willing dupe. For this, I will forever be ashamed." Now she is able to have the privilege of speaking to others about this misfortunate act.
