A Nation Of Greatness Falls To Ruins

This created conflicting beliefs and again the nation was torn. One side would accuse the other of being heretics and vise versa. Many battles broke out with in cities over which branch of Christianity was right. This was what emerged after the conversion of Constantine the first Christian Emperor. After his death the Christian bishops became powerful enough to censure and excommunicate high civil officials who displeased them . This may have lead to the lack of proper leadership in the Roman government. For, the Roman Empire came to success under pagan beliefs and ended under Christianity.
The Roman Empire became a world power not sole on their ability to conquer and take over other people's lands but in their ability to grow socially and economically, with the depletion of both of these their demise was inevitable. While Rome conquered the world, there was a secret war going on with in its walls . This was a passage by Montesquieu, which described the inner turmoil in Roman cities after the expulsion of the kings and the change from monarchy to an aristocracy. With out kings the social classes were massively divided. This created a destruction of the middleclass - the carrier of the classical culture. Montesquieu also said that those who obey a king are less tormented by envy and jealousy than those who live under a hereditary aristocracy . This fact is what may have created a decline in the Roman culture and their sovereignty of the people to their country. The people of Rome started to move out of the large cities and become more rural. This lessened Rome's ability to control its people and to acquire the loyalty they needed to fend off enemies.
For the amount of land that Rome occupied it depended greatly on a stable economy, which by the second and third centuries was in great despair. With the great separation of classes, there was not enough currency in circulation to sustain a stable economy.
