SKYY Vodka has used a number of different ads to sell their products. Their current advertising campaign is the Starlet Campaign. With eye-catching colors and special attention to details, the SKYY Vodka ad, #57 Starlet, found in the September issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine utilizes many different advertising methods to sell their beverage. But, behind it's pretty picture lies a message that drinking can make you happy, beautiful, and in control. .
Caples says that type in an ad should seize the readers" attention, and draw them in. The #57 Starlet ad does not have much type in it. The main type in the ad is the label on the bottle. According to Caples the ad is not effective in this area. I disagree; I think the ad does not need type. It would make the ad appear cluttered, and gives the reader too much to look at all at once. .
According to Caples there are specific pictures that get the attention of readers. Pictures of babies, brides, animals, and famous people are some examples of attention grabbing pictures. The #57 Starlet ad does not use any of these directly. However, the ad does get attention by its resemblance to the pinup posters of the 1930" s - 1950's. And it's use of vibrantly contrasting colors do attract the readers eyes. Though Caples may not agree with me, I believe he would take a second look at this ad if he ran cross it. .
There are certain outlines that advertisers use to form an ad that sells. In order to sell a product properly in an ad you must show the product, or the results of the use of a product. There are many factors that make the #54 Starlet ad a selling ad. There is a picture of the product in the lower left-hand corner of the ad. Pictures of the product are a highly effective selling technique. Use of the product is also an effective technique. Although the people in the ad is not seen drinking SKYY Vodka, there is an implication, through the nearly empty glasses obviously containing SKYY Vodka, that she, as well as her male partner, have been drinking it.
