Order in a Seattle Shopping Area

But that is not the case. Through my observations I have come to the conclusion that people from all walks of like come here not only to shop, they come to sight see, go our to eat, hang out, and even for entertainment purposes. This area is one of Seattle's main shopping districts and I am led to believe that everyone is encouraged to come and enjoy what this area has to offer. .
Upon first arrival I was amazed with the physical beauty and holiday aura the shopping district provided. There was holiday music playing in the background and holiday decorations everywhere. The street lighting was extremely bright and I even found myself to be very safe at night. The buildings were tall and orderly, and the glass windows paralleled the sidewalks nicely. There were tall trees that lined the street and provided cover to the pedestrians walking through. Nicely designed flat benches were placed outside of the major department stores and along parts of the sidewalk to provide comfort to pedestrians walking by. All of these physical characteristics combined and contributed to the overall safe and clean feeling of the environment. It was a very welcoming place and I felt very safe to be there. I would say that it was the exact opposite of the 1st Avenue and Broadway area. .
I found that some of the physical characteristics are important to the maintenance of order. For instance, the sidewalks lining the block and throughout the surrounding area are extremely wide. I would estimate them being at least twelve to fifteen feet in width, which is at least twice as large as a typical sidewalk. There are a high number of people that were around during the peak hours of the day and I would say that the large size of the sidewalk is a necessity for mobilization of large crowds. If the sidewalks were only five feet in width, people might move to the side of the street or push, which could erupt into social disorder.
