The great white shark has many names that distinguish him from other animal. It is some times called the great white, white death and many other names. Its scientific name is carcharodos carcharias, and that scientific name is also used for many other sharks like the hammer head shark and the whale shark. The great white is known for its ferocity in the sea, it can literally kill anything that is in the water. The great white has three different colors; on its back its gray, on the sides is some times blue and its only white part is the lower part of the stomach. The grey color makes it a great killing machine because it blends with the water causing its prey not to notice him. It has a torpedo shape body, which makes his very fast on water. This shark has six fins, used for swimming, the main fins are the dorsal fin on its back and 2 pectoral fins on its sides, the other fins help him stabilize himself in the water. the great white has about three thousand teeth, and something really cool about this shark is that its skin is composed of cartilage and if you look really closely you will see that the has teeth like structure that moves up to replace a teeth once it has fallen. The size of the shark depend if it is male or female, female are usually bigger because they have to carry sharks pups when they are pregnant. The average shark is about three to four meter and an average weight of one thousand to five thousand pounds. The biggest shark ever recorded measure seven meter and weight seven thousand pounds. The great white feeds on many different animals that go from small fish to big animals like belugas and sea lions. Great whites don't chew their food, they swallow in big chunks or they just eat their prey in one sitting, depending on the size of their prey they can not eat for about two months. They have different types of hunting strategies, once I saw in the discovery channel that thy will strike a sea lion from the bottom and jumping out side of the water so they can also hit them with their tale, if in the first try they did not kill their prey.
