Night on Earth

The two stories that are being compared are the stories of Los Angeles and New .
The significance of the these stories show the prejudices people face because of their economic class and background and how to be rid of these prejudices. The message of the stories however, is - never assume that things are the way they appear to be. Both stories being with assumptions of social constructs of the passengers and their driver that get twisted then turned totally around. These twists and turns are the common basic theme that can essentially be found in both stories.
The events and subsequent significance of the events in Los Angeles and New York are remarkably identical. The initial opening sequences of both stories give the audience shots of desolate parts of both cities, but then we see loads of people. It is also remarkably how easily how in both stories, the passengers and drivers are ready to divulge personal information to each other even though they strangers to one another. It is like they are almost eager to announce their prejudices to each other and dismount these stereotypes off their chest.' Amazingly they return to their normal lives once they part ways, never making any form of contact, even though they have formed some sort of unique relationships with the other. .
The most significant twist to these stories is the affection and concern for the welfare that the passengers show for their drivers. They seem to want to be guides for their drivers in terms of location and especially emotionally. The lady in the cab (in Los Angles) wanted so desperately to provide a better future for her driver while the gentleman in New York also wanted to make sure job of the cab driver was secure. He wanted the driver to be aware of the fact that he was in New York and so he encouraged the driver to always count the money he was paid whenever he picked up a passenger.
