Appearing in a new military uniform, the Cherubino sings to all of the women to see how much they love him. He sings, "Donne vedete s"io l"ho nel cor"- ladies, I beg you, share it with me. Although this role is for a mezzo-soprano, or lyric mezzo, as it ranges from C4 to F5, it is known as a trouser role. This simply means that a woman is playing the part of a man, or boy.

Mozart's "Don Giovanni" is seen as being a great music-drama, as it took place in and about Seville during the seventeenth century. Mozart referred to his opera as an opera buffa, or a light opera, as the librettist, Lorenzo Da Ponte called it a dramma giocoso (a jolly play). First played in Prague on October 29, 1787, "Don Giovanni" includes many arias such as Vedrai, carino. Here a young peasant girl by the name Zerlina is in front of an inn, singing to Masetto. She is singing to him in hopes to soothe his wounds as he was just beaten by Don Giovanni. The role of Zerlina is sung by a soprano as the range is from G4 to F5. .

Giacomo Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" is based on a play written by David Belasco, which in itself was taken from the writings of John Luther Long. This romantic drama premiered on February 17, 1904, at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy. Taking place in Nagasaki, Japan, the Italian opera is a story of an arranged marriage of a young Japanese woman (Madame Butterfly) and an American lieutenant. Betrayal occurs with the couple as the lieutenant leaves for America with no intentions of coming back as Butterfly waits day and night for his return. The aria Un bel di vedremo is a song Butterfly sings to her housekeeper about the day her husband will return to her, although it has been at least two years since his departure.
