This group is targeted because younger teenagers aspire to be like them, as do people in their late twenties and thirties who want to stay hip. They can be dubbed as reference groups, which are sets of people, whose norms and values influence consumer's behavior. Values are the shared norms about what is right to think or do. It is what a culture considers to be worthy and desirable. A culture is the learned values, beliefs, language, symbols, and patterns of behavior shared by people in a society and passed on from generation to generation. Consumer behaviors are termed as the actions and decision processes of individuals and households in discovering, evaluating, acquiring, consuming, and disposing of products. Several shows such as Beavis and Butthead and Singled Out have been cancelled because they were beginning to be outdated. The Real World and Road Rules were experiencing declines as well, however MTV restyled them to show kids as being more respectful to parents and addressed in a more civilized manner. Cast members on the Real World are sometimes found working at day care centers or volunteering. VH1 caters to those in their late twenties and early thirties by producing such shows as VH1 presents the 80's and Where Are They Now. VH1 presents the 80's take these individuals back to the time when they were teens, as does Where Are They Now, which uses interviews, film clips, and exclusive home movies to revisit the stars of yesteryear. Nickelodeon also caters to these individuals by broadcasting Nick at Night, which accommodates these people by having shows such as the I Love Lucy, The Cosby Show and Cheers.
The next stage is New Couples. New couples are classified as young married people without children generally trying to build an economic foundation for later responsibilities. MTV caters to this group by having shows such as MTV Cribs, Movie House, and True Life. MTV Cribs give these couples a glimpse into the private lives of today's movie, music, and sports celebrities.
