Utopia

Work on the farm was the usual. However their plan is to produce surpluses of food for two years in case of crop failure and the remainder is sold to foreigners. The money received from the sale goes to the national treasury to be used only in case of war.
The plan of all Utopian cities was similar except for variations in topography. For example the capital, Amaurot covers a piece of land two miles square of the bank of the Anider River, and about sixty miles from the sea. The entire city is walled, and outside the wall is a deep, dry ditch filled with briars. The streets are 20 feet wide, convenient for carriages. The house all look the same and every ten years the residents changes houses by lot. .
The population control was no problems for Utopians. The population of each city was maintained at about six thousand, and in the event of a baby boom, some families were sent to other cities, where they would be well accommodated. However if the population of the whole country exceeded their prescribed number, then some citizens where sent of as colonist to other countries that were not so densely packed. .
The idea of population control seems like a modern concept, however by this Sir Thomas More doesn't mean birth control. Over crowed countries should learn from this concept.
The cities in Utopia are divided into 4 equal sections, and in the middle of each are mark places, one with all kinds of food, and another for dry goods. All goods were free. Any one could take what ever they wanted. There was no need for hoarding because there was enough for everyone. Animals were butcher by slaves, however not in the city. Instead they were killed in a place near a river were no one was at. This kept the town clean from any unpleasant odors. Little by little, we are being shown how people live in a society operating on the basis of idealized communism. Nobody receives wages or rewards for his labor and everyone are the same.
