             Close your eyes and imagine war, unlimited killing, and ashes of villages that at one timed decorated a beautiful land. Is this the sign of hell? It could be. Place yourself in the mind, body, and soul of Hans von Grimmelshausen. A young boy who had to watch his family murdered, his home set on fire, and his freedom and pride taken away. Look into the eyes of John Locke and Thomas Hobbes as they called for the leaders and people to reform and unite to for a great state and country. At a time of tragedy and turmoil, One can only ask "Were are the leaders and rulers?". Can you see the pain in the eyes of rebelling nobles? Do you hear their voices crying for a change, a plan, and a united land? The answer comes in the form of centralized state. A state with rulers and noble that are united and loyal to each other. A centralized state is the solution and will provide solace for everyone. In order to construct a centralized state, one must first understanding the state's advantages, disadvantages, and solutions for a country. .
             The advantages of a centralized state are quite simple. The State would provide protection, leadership, and peace. For a centralized state to function it must first protect its people. The reason for this protection is clearly defined by John Locke, " When men enter society they give up the Equality, Liberty, and executive power into the hands of Society or Legislator"(Sourcebook 64). It is vital for the state to protect its people, because nobles have given the state its trust by giving up there Natural Rights. In order too protect its state and people a great leader is needed. James 1 best describes a great leader;"A King by law of Nature is father to his country. A father's chief joy should be in procuring his children welfare, rejoicing at their weal, sorrowing and pitying at their evil, to hazard for their safety, travel for their rest, wake for their sleep, and above all to think his life stands and lives more in them"(Sourcebook 23).
