Setting has tremendous effect on the emotions and actions of everyone, without exception, in everything that we do. In example, the choices you make to guide the events of your day will almost always be dependent on how you perceive the questions that come about. Your perception of these questions is solely based on the circumstances that impact your frame of mind. Circumstance is only one part of the definition of the word setting; however, it is a very important part which is often forgotten. The importance of circumstantial setting is explained with further detail in the following two scenarios:.
First scenario; Your alarm does not work, therefore you wake up later than planned. Because of this you are rushed to get ready for work. You attempt to have breakfast only to find that since there was a power outage in the middle of the night your milk has spoiled. On your way to work you attempt to get a McDonalds quick fix breakfast, only to find that in your morning hurry you left your money at home. While driving to work your car has a blow out, on the freeway, two miles between either exit. You get out to fix the tire, but halfway through the job it starts sprinkling. Somehow, you manage to get to work on time; however, with the help of the bright lights in your office you notice that although your suit is entirely black you have managed to somehow put on navy blue stockings. Just after realizing this, your best friend bursts into your office bubbling with joy as she recounts the events of her weekend adventure. When she is finished, she gives you her most pathetic look and requests that you pay her back an owed favor by covering her 5:00PM meeting today. You respond to this request by elevating your voice while telling her to get out of your office, and then slam the door.
Second scenario; you wake up at 6:00AM to the recorded sound of Huey Louis playing on your alarm clock.
