Should the Legal Drinking Age Be Lowered to 18?.
Lowering the legal drinking age to eighteen is a topic that has a strong argument from both sides. One side says the legal drinking age should remain at twenty-one; meanwhile, the younger part of the population (18 - 21) feel that the legal age to consume alcohol should be eighteen, as I feel. The legal drinking age should be changed back to eighteen, as it was in the mid 1980's for several reasons: drinking in moderation is proven healthful, the number of under age drinkers would be lowered, and if people can go to war and defend our country, then our country should allow them to consume alcohol.
A study shows that drinking in moderation is healthful, and can also make a person more enjoyable. Doctors have said for several years now that drinking red wine is healthy for the cardiovascular system. To support this, "CNN" ran a report stating that people who consume 1 - 3 drinks a day will live up to thirty percent longer than those who don't drink alcohol. Drinking at this level will allow one to relax, which puts them in a better mood, and when people are in a better mood they are more likely to meet new people to associate with. If one works out, drinking certain alcoholic beverages, such as beer, can be used as a supplement to help boost carbohydrate and protein levels, and working out has never been unhealthy.
Lowering the legal drinking age back to the original eighteen would lower the number of under age drinkers. Now if a person is twenty-one, he or she knows that they can go anywhere and have a drink; therefore, I feel that once he or she reaches the age of twenty-one, they will not go out and get "plastered" as often because they can do it any time and it's not really a big deal anymore. One obvious reason for lowering the drinking age is to make it legal for all the eighteen to twenty-one year olds to drink.
